Jeff Davis Parish schools enhance security for student safety
JEFF DAVIS PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Jeff Davis Parish has implemented comprehensive security measures across its schools over the past three years to enhance safety for students and staff.
The initiative, led by Superintendent John Hall, includes the installation of safety vestibules, additional fencing, cameras in hallways and weapon detectors at every school site. This effort was initiated following a security and safety analysis conducted by state police.
"About three years ago, we asked the state police to come in and do a security and safety analysis on all of our schools," said Hall.
Hall emphasized the importance of these security upgrades, stating that the safety of students and staff is his top priority. The administration acted swiftly on the recommendations from the security analysis report.
$500,000 was invested to install weapon detectors in each school in the parish, which work in conjunction with the newly installed safety vestibules. Hall noted that these measures are at the forefront of safety initiatives.
Despite the challenges of implementing these changes, such as preparing the community for the inconvenience of increased security, Hall remains committed to ensuring the safety of students and staff.
"It's really important to us to let parents know that their children are safe," he said.
