Investigation underway after fire at vacant Lafayette building

LAFAYETTE, LA (KLFY) – A commercial fire broke out earlier this morning at a vacant metal building in the 1300 block of SE Evangeline Thruway, firefighters said.
According to firefighters, upon arrival they discovered a small smoldering fire inside the unsecured building.
Firefighters said the burning objects were quickly extinguished, the fire was contained to the material stored inside the building and the vacant structure had no utilities supplied to it.
Fire officials believed homeless individual were staying inside the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
