Storm chances Saturday with a severe threat overnight
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - After starting the day out with quiet conditions, temperatures rise fast and will reach the upper 80s this afternoon. Storm chances start developing around lunchtime and continue through 8 p.m. We will see a break in the activity through midnight before another round of storms arrive early Sunday morning. These once again will have another opportunity to be severe. The main concern will be damaging wind gusts with these storms, but a low-end tornado threat will exist as well. The front moves through Sunday morning bringing drier and cooler conditions to the area.
In the tropics, we are monitoring two disturbances. The first is an area of low pressure off the East Coast that has the potential to become a subtropical storm over open waters. The second is a tropical wave that will move into the Caribbean where it has a better chance of development over the next week.
Locally, nice weather returns to the area next week leading to a week full of sunshine, mornings in the 50s, and afternoons in the lower 80s.
