Arrests made in two Opelousas ongoing shooting cases
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- The Opelousas Police Department is providing an update on two separate shooting investigations that occurred within the city limits of Opelousas.
Police have made a second arrest in connection with the shooting that occurred on Wallior Street on Oct. 2. John Veal has been arrested and charged with the following:
- One count of principal to attempted first-degree murder
- One count of principal to illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities
- One count of principal to assault by drive-by shooting
- One count of principal to aggravated criminal damage to property
Officials said Veal was driving the vehicle at the time of the shooting, which is believed to have been in retaliation for a prior shooting that occurred on Aug 4.
Investigators have also made an arrest in a separate shooting that caused South Louisiana Community College (SLCC) to go on temporary lockdown as a precaution on Oct. 7. Tyrek Allison has been arrested and charged with:
- Two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property
- One count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities
- One count of armed robbery with the use of a firearm
- One count of aggravated battery
Officials said they were able to obtain crucial evidence linking Allison to his involvement in the incident.
