Strong cold front arrives tonight with storms
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - Tuesday will see sun-filled skies through the day. Temperatures will climb from the 70s to near 80 during the afternoon hours. A cold front will push through the area in the evening hours.
This front will bring showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be strong or severe. These storms could produce damaging wind gusts, tornadoes, and hail, so make sure you have a way to get warnings in case they are issued. After the front moves through, winds shift from the north and get quite gusty. We could see wind gusts over 30 mph at times. Highs Wednesday will reach the upper 60s.
Hurricane Melissa has become an absolute monster and one of the strongest hurricanes ever seen in the Atlantic as it closes in on Jamaica. Melissa is a Category 5 with 175 mph winds and a pressure down to 901 mb. After it hits Jamaica, it will then head to Cuba, the Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, and Bermuda.
Locally, chilly fall weather continues into the end of the week, including for Halloween. Trick-or-treating will be beautiful with clear skies and temperatures in the 50s. This weekend, another system will bring more rain and thunderstorms to the area Saturday night.
