Louisiana football snaps three-game losing streak, keeps postseason hopes alive

0

MOBILE, AL. (KLFY) -- The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns ended a three-game losing streak with a 31-22 victory over South Alabama, keeping their hopes for a bowl game alive.

The win improves the Cajuns' record to 3-6 for the season, leaving them with a chance to reach the postseason with three games remaining.

Quarterback Lunch Winfield delivered an outstanding performance, completing 14 of 15 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground with 45 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. had a standout game, catching both of Winfield's touchdown passes and amassing 138 yards on six receptions. Sampson's 138 yards were the most by a Louisiana receiver this season.

The Cajun defense played a crucial role in the victory, preventing South Alabama from scoring double-digit points in any quarter. Linebacker Jaden Dugger recorded an interception, and Tyree Skipper added a sack to the defensive effort.

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to Lafayette on Saturday, November 8, for their annual Louisiana Salutes game against Texas State. This will be their final meeting with the Bobcats before Texas State joins the Pac-12 Conference in July 2026.

With this victory, the Ragin' Cajuns have kept their postseason dreams alive, setting the stage for a crucial matchup against Texas State next week in the Hub City.
