Monroe man arrested, charged with Medicaid fraud
MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) -- The husband of a former Louisiana Department of Health employee is accused of Medicaid fraud, authorities said.
Dominque Higgins, 36, of Monroe, and his wife, Courtney Higgins, a former LDH employee, allegedly concealed their income and marital status to receive Medicaid benefits.
The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation received a criminal referral from LDH regarding the allegations.
Investigators said Dominque Higgins hid his income and marital status to continue receiving benefits, and that Courtney Higgins uploaded a false employment verification letter to Dominque’s LDH file, falsely claiming he was unemployed. LBI alleges the couple knew Dominque was not eligible for Medicaid benefits.
As a result, the Medicaid program was allegedly defrauded of $22,536.56, officials said.
Courtney Higgins was previously arrested by LBI on Oct. 8.
LBI agents booked Dominque Higgins Tuesday without incident at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one felony count of Government Benefits Fraud. His bond was set at $5,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
