Opelousas school honored for excellence in academics
OPELOUSAS, la. (KLFY) -- The Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts in Opelousas has been nationally recognized for its dedication to student success, earning accolades for its academic achievements.
The school has been ranked as the 7th best high school in Louisiana by U.S. News and World Report, highlighting its commitment to providing quality education to talented students.
"It just shows and proves our hard work over the past ten years," said Natalie Angelle, Principal of the Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts.
The Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts, known for its focus on cultural education, has also been named a National ESEA Distinguished School by the state's educational agency. This recognition comes in light of the school's impressive 94% graduation rate and its academic progress.
Principal Natalie Angelle attributes the school's success to its strong culture and dedicated teaching staff.
"We definitely stick to the guidance that the district gives us," Angelle explained. "We teach the curriculum and then our students are very engaged because not every student comes here as an A student. We have students from all backgrounds that attend MACA, but we have teachers that are dedicated to teaching the curriculum. We are about offering equity and excellence."
Superintendent Milton Batiste III of St. Landry Parish emphasized the importance of maintaining this culture of excellence.
"I think just to continue to make it tradition," Batiste said. "They've kind of created a culture around sustainability. So I think as long as we can continue to expand on the offerings that we have and continue to have community support within our schools, I think we'll continue to see that trend on an upward trajectory."
With continued support and a focus on excellence, the Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts is poised to sustain its success and further its impact on the community.
