Opelousas woman killed in St. Landry Parish crash
CHURCH POINT, La. (KLFY) -- An early morning crash in Church Point has resulted in the death of an Opelousas woman.
This morning, shortly after 7 a.m., Louisiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on La. 754 near Jessie Richard Road in St. Landry Parish. The crash claimed the life of Sonya McClendon, 52, of Opelousas.
According to authorizes McClendon was driving west on La. 754. At the same time, a Ford F-150 was traveling east when for reasons still under investigation, McClendon crossed the center line and struck the Ford head-on.
McClendon was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation
