Lafayette house fire causes heavy damage, no injuries reported
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A early morning house fire caused heavy damage to a Lafayette resident's home.
Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 600 block of Orchid Drive at 8 a.m. this morning.
Authorities said the owner, an elderly female, called 911 to report a small fire in her bedroom. When fire crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was coming from the front of the single-family dwelling.
Firefighters entered the dwelling and discovered the bedroom engulfed in flames. The interior of the dwelling sustained heavy fire related damages.
Fire officials determined that the fire started on the dresser in the bedroom. Electrical devices in the area are being examined for a possible malfunction.
The cause of the fire was ruled an accident. No injuries were reported in the incident.
