QB Lunch Winfield guides Ragin' Cajuns past Texas State
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns secured a 42-39 victory over Texas State on Saturday night, marking their first two-game winning streak of the season.
The Cajuns' offense was unstoppable in the first half, scoring on all but one possession and amassing a balanced 192 yards both in passing and rushing on the night.
Quarterback Lunch Winfield was instrumental in the victory, throwing three touchdown passes, two of which were caught by Shelton Sampson Jr. Those early touchdowns gave Louisiana a 35-17 at halftime.
Defensively, Kody Jackson added an interception, while Cameron Whitfield recovered a fumble on consecutive Texas State drives in the second quarter.
Despite a slow start in the second half, where Winfield threw two interceptions, the Cajuns held off a late surge by the Bobcats, who scored 19 points in the fourth quarter to narrow the gap to three points.
With this victory, Louisiana continues its push for an eighth consecutive bowl appearance and will next face Arkansas State on Nov. 20 on ESPN.
