Cajun Country spirit shines at benefit for injured rodeo star

0

SCOTT, La. (KLFY) -- The community in Scott came together this weekend to rally behind a local cowboy who was seriously injured at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo.

Friends and family organized a benefit and blood drive to help cover his hospital and medical expenses and to show what Cajun Country spirit looks like when one of their own needs help.

Under the lights of the Scott Rodeo Arena, friends, family, and riders came together, not for competition, but for compassion. They’re raising money for Dylan Terro, 34, who nearly lost his life in July when a bull kicked him in the chest during a ride in Wyoming.

“He had a 1% chance of making it, but he walked out of the ICU in Cheyenne Regional Medical Center 20 days out of ICU. He walked straight out with there with no support,” said Dylan’s father, Vic Tero.

After flatlining in the arena and spending weeks in a medically induced coma, Dylan’s story became one of faith and grit.

“It’s great how not just the community, but the rodeo families come together,” said event organizer Bret Landry. “You know, anytime an incident or whatever happens, family comes together to give money. You know, it is it is the number one American sport. And as the U.S., as Americans we’re here to support each other as we come here to do; support Dylan; support the great sport of rodeo.”

From live music and silent auctions to a mobile blood drive, the event was packed with support and 100% sponsored by businesses and volunteers. The crowd included professional riders, bullfighters, and even NFR announcers all there to honor one cowboy’s fight to ride again.

When asked about what the blood drive meant to him, Dylan said it was deeply personal.

“To me, it means a lot because I used up a bunch of it. So, it’s good that they’re able to come out here and help support and replenish that. And it means a lot to me that all these people are, you know, doing stuff for me. And it’s very humbling. You know, it makes you realize, you know, life is precious and that your friends and family are important,” Dylan said.
