Cold front clears clouds and humidity, Fire Weather danger high today

0

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - A strong cold front is bringing drier air and sunny skies to the region Sunday. Through the day, sunshine will fill the sky as temperatures rise into the lower 70s. Winds will be very strong into the afternoon hours, at times gusting over 30 mph. A Wind Advisory is in place for the strong winds. Due to the drought conditions, extremely dry air, and strong winds, a RED FLAG WARNING has been issued. DO NOT burn anything outdoors as any fire that begins will easily spread in the dry air and strong winds!

Sunday evening, colder air blasts into Acadiana, sinking temperatures into the 30s for overnight lows. Winds remain strong overnight, so make sure you bundle up in layers heading into Monday! Monday itself will not see temperatures rise above the mid 50s even with full sunshine. Tuesday morning, a light freeze is expected north of I-10 with temperatures dropping as low as 30. Widespread frost is expected as winds go light.

After a cold start Tuesday, temperatures warm dramatically - almost 30 degrees - by the afternoon. This begins a snap-back to spring-like weather for the end of the week with highs near 80 degrees and warm winds bringing in humidity. A few showers will be possible, especially over next weekend.
