TOPEKA (KSNT) — A new Supreme Court ruling is clearing the way for President Donald Trump to enforce many of his policies and executive orders, including his order to end birthright citizenship.
The court's 6-3 ruling will make it more difficult for lower courts to issue nationwide injunctions. Judges use these injunctions to temporarily block Trump's policies while lawsuits make their way through courts.
These injunctions can apply to the entire nation. However, now courts must jump through an extra loophole in order to make this happen.
27 news got in touch with Micah Kubic, the director from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kansas. He shared with us how this court ruling will help Trump enforce his agenda, including ending birthright citizenship.
"What it means is that the president will be able to put through his agenda in ways that he could not before," Kubic said. "To the extent that the courts thus far have stopped him, they've often done it on a nationwide basis, instead they're now going to have to stop him in this state and that state."
Trump claims that more nationwide injunctions have been used against him than any other U.S. president.
