GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KSNW) - Garden City Public Schools says a new federal funding freeze will result in the loss of over $1 million to the district.
Kansas is projected to lose $49.9 million in education support. For USD 457, that means a loss of $1,316,525 across several key programs:
Migrant education (Title IC): -$497,000
Teacher quality and professional development (Title IIA): -$251,319
English language acquisition (Title III): -$223,004
Student support and academic enrichment (Title IVA): -$95,202
After-school programs (21st Century Title IVB): -$25,000
Garden City states that these funds support vital services, including after-school programming, support for English learners and migrant students, as well as resources for teacher training and student well-being.
The district says that programs will be scaled back or canceled due to the funding loss. They plan to retain all employees at their current pay, but some may experience changes in their job assignments.
We understand how much our diverse community values these programs and the people that serve our students every day. We are working closely with our staff and Board to adjust and prioritize while continuing to deliver high-quality education to all students.
We'll continue to update our families and community members as more informatino becomes available. In themeantime, we are grateful for your support and partnership.
If you have questions or concerns, we invite you to contact our district office at 620-805-7000.
Josh Guymon, superintendent for Garden City Public Schools
