JHX Hoops falls to Heartfire 71-68 in TBT Kansas City Regional Final
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KSNT) - JHX Hoops took on Heartfire Wednesday night at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
JHX Hoops, a collection of Kansas men's basketball alums, came off a win against K-State's alumni team, Purple Reign, on Monday.
JHX Hoops trailed at the end of the first and the half, but took the lead after a 26-point effort in the third. They went into the fourth with a 55-51 lead.
Heartfire led JHX Hoops 63-62 after a back-and-forth fourth quarter. The clocks were stopped and both teams proceeded to the 'ELAM Ending,' where a target score is set for each team to reach.
A target score of 71 was set, and JHX Hoops fell short. Heartfire would win 71-68, advancing to play the Aftershocks in Wichita Sunday night.
Despite the loss, the players were thankful for the time they got to spend with each other and with their coach.
"Just being around the guys that you wished you could've played with, seeing some of those guys, everybody vibes, we all get along," JHX Hoops Head Coach Sherron Collins said. "The dinners and the meetings, it makes it all worth it."
"Just being able to learn from him, watching him growing up and just having this opportunity to play for him is very special, for sure," Zeke Mayo said, a Kansas guard from 2024-25.
