TOPEKA (KSNT) - A Topeka library will be undergoing some major construction work in its parking lot starting in early August.
The Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library announced in a press release that it will begin making improvements to its main parking lot on Monday, Aug. 4. Work will consist of resurfacing, replacing concrete and increasing drainage.
"We appreciate visitors' patience as we work to improve the parking lot," said Thad Hartman, library chief of staff. "These improvements will resolve several parking lot issues and prevent future problems. Our goal is to have the project complete in October well before winter weather begins."
People visiting the library will still be able to use the parking lot but with reduced space available. Sunflower Paving is leading this project and has four phases outlined for the work:
Phase one - replacement of the concrete drive on the east side of the parking lot. Washburn Avenue and 11th Street entrances/exits will be closed during this phase.
Phase two - resurfacing of the west drive, resulting in the closure of the Garfield Avenue entrance/exit. Washburn Avenue and 11th Street entrances/exits will be reopened.
Phase three - resurfacing of the east parking lot.
Phase four - resurfacing of the west lot.
