What is the $13 million construction project in west Topeka?
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Construction workers are putting the pieces together to make a major addition to a west Topeka living center this year.
Cedarhurst of Topeka, located at 6732 Southwest 17th Street, is getting a big update in 2025. The retirement community is looking to add in 34 new cottages designed to give its residents specialized care and increased independence.
Cedarhurst Corporate Communications Manager Ryan Davis said construction started near the end of May this year and is set to wrap up in the summer of 2026. He said the total cost of the project is $13 million.
“We’re proud to bring these thoughtfully designed cottages to Topeka, where the demand for modern independent living options continues to rise,” said Almir Sajtovic, president of Cedarhurst Senior Living in a May 27, 2025 press release. “This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to creating spaces that offer comfort, connection, and the freedom to live life on your own terms, with the peace of mind that support is always close by.”
Residents who are 55 or older can enjoy an independent-living lifestyle at the new cottages alongside the amenities offered at the west Topeka Cedarhurst community such as a pickleball court, putting green and full-service dining. Each of the new cottages come with two-bedroom floor plans, walk-in closets, full-sized kitchen appliances, laundry rooms and more.
"The expansion reinforces Cedarhurst’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of seniors and providing exceptional living experiences. The Independent Living Cottages will provide residents with a comfortable and supportive environment where they can maintain their independence while staying engaged with the vibrant Cedarhurst community."
