$2 million KC-area Powerball winner comes forward: 'A huge blessing'
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The winner of a seven-figure prize from the Kansas Lottery came forward this week, claiming a $2 million prize.
The Kansas Lottery says that a $2 million Powerball with Powerplay winner was sold to a Kansas City-area player via the Kansas Lottery app. While the player chose to remain anonymous, they did share how they plan on spending their winnings.
“We will be making a donation to our church first, because this is such a huge blessing. After that, we will probably start looking for a house!" they said.
While the winner didn't strike the jackpot, which reached nearly $2 billion last week, they did share that the excitement was too much to contain.
"My wife and I couldn't sleep Saturday night," they said about finding out they may have won.
"We just sat in bed talking to each other. We were too excited to sleep!"
The winning numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61 and 62 on the Sept. 6 Powerball drawing.
In addition to the KC-area winner, the Sunflower State is home to another seven-figure winner this week as well; Kansas Lottery says a player from Hays, Kansas claimed a $1 million prize.
That player shared a similar experience to the KC-area winner.
"It was nerve-wracking to site there from Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. to Monday morning at 9 a.m. to reach out to the lottery for confirmation," they said.
"We wanted to make sure before we got ahead of ourselves!"
The Hays winner, who is also remaining anonymous, shared that they plan on paying off their children's student loans, debt and planning a family vacation with their winnings.
