Topeka music store damaged in fire, loses several guitars

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A Topeka guitar shop owner is recovering after a fire damaged his business late Tuesday night.

Steven Huske, owner of Nappy's Place, told 27 News he got a call late on Sept. 16 that his business was on fire. He rushed over to his guitar shop, finding personnel with the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) dousing the flames.

"I obviously freaked out," Huske said. "My initial reaction was just obviously terror, stuff like that. I freaked out because when I pulled up... I had no idea what the damage was."

City of Topeka spokeswoman Kimberly Qualls said in a press release that firefighters were called around midnight on the night of Sept. 16-17 to respond to a fire at the business located at 3310 Southwest Sixth Avenue. She said fire crews put the flames out, later determining that it was caused by an accidental electrical fire.

Huske said he lost 15 guitars to the fire along with other equipment. He said the fire hit the west wall of his business the hardest and caused extensive damage on the inside.

Huske is now encouraging people to swing by and take part in a "fire sale" as he continues to clean up the mess left by the blaze. Nappy's Place is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.

"Come out, say 'what's up,' we love the people," Huske said.
