It's fall! Here's some local activities in Kansas

0

KANSAS (KSNT) - It's autumn in Kansas! That means it's time for corn mazes, pumpkin patches, apple orchards and other fall festivities.

Fall officially begins on the autumnal equinox, and this year that's on Sept. 22. The equinox is one of two days where the sun is directly above the equator, dividing night and day into equal portions. The season runs from the autumn equinox until the winter solstice which will arrive on Dec. 21.

Whether you prefer exploring local farms in the height of their harvest season, or downtown festivals full of Midwestern charm, there's something for everybody this season. Here's a list of some local favorites:

  • A & H Farm in Manhattan.
    • A & H Farm has a wide variety of produce available, but its big attractions are its five acre Sesame Street themed corn maze, and its 10 acre Lainey Wilson maze. Besides its mazes, it also has a u-pick flower area, bird enclosure and an adults-only zone for some peace and quiet.
  • Fall Color Farms in Riley.
    • This 200+ acre farm offers a wide variety of produce like apples, pumpkins, squash and more. Guests are able to walk though an active orchard and nursery, enjoy various kids activities, as well as shop in their Creekside market. If you're a Wildcat football fan, it has homemade apple cider donuts every game day.
  • Fall Festival at Gary's Farm in Grantville.
    • Gary's Farm features more than 40 attractions like pig races, apple cannons and petting zoos. Beginning on Sept. 26, the Fall Festival is an annual event that has been going strong since 2000, expanding from a staff of four all the way to more than 150 employees.
  • Shively Farms in Berryton.
    • Open every weekend from Sept. 14 to Nov. 2, Shively Farms has more than 2,000 pumpkin plants in its patch and dozens of activities for the whole family. After picking the perfect pumpkin, you can enjoy activities like its three acre corn maze, human hamster wheel and more.
  • The BIG Little Apple Street Fest in Manhattan.
    • On Oct. 16, three blocks in downtown Manhattan will be full of live music, street dances, classic cars and all your favorite Third Thursday activities. This event is entirely free and has activities for the whole family. Whether you're local or just visiting, this street fest is a great way to enjoy the Fall festivities and explore the Little Apple.
