Former Olathe teacher sentenced to 3 years probation for sexual relations with student

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A former Olathe West High School science teacher was sentenced in a Johnson County court last Thursday after investigators said he had sexual relations with a student at the school in October 2024.

According to court records, Jonathan Molina-Calderon was given a 3-year probation term after pleading no contest this summer to one count of unlawful sexual relations with a student 16 years or older.

Charges were filed against Molina-Calderon on Nov. 26, 2024, about one month after the assault. Then, on Thursday, Dec. 19, the former teacher was found and arrested in Kansas City. He was later extradited to Kansas.

The Olathe School District stated that Molina-Calderon was hired in August 2018 as an English Language Learning teacher with a focus on science. He was fired at a meeting on Nov. 7, 2024.

Following the incident, the district said the principal sent the following letter to families.

“I wanted to make you aware that ELL teacher Mr. Molina Calderon will not be returning to
Olathe West. We are putting a fantastic long-term substitute in place and will be looking to
name a permanent teacher as quickly as possible. Our substitute will be working closely with our administration team and the rest of our ELL department as we navigate this transition. I am confident that our students will have an excellent remainder of the 2024-25 school year.

We are committed to working with our students and staff to make the transition as smooth as
possible. Your student was told of this change during their ELL class today. Please feel free to
