Washburn football dominates Mules to snap losing streak
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Washburn Ichabods snap its five-game losing streak on Saturday with a 37-17 win over the University of Central Missouri. This win marks the 'Bods first conference win of the season.
Washburn senior safety Jordan Finnesy would ignite the spark in the opening drive forcing a Mules fumble.
The 'Bods would open up the scoring early with a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Logan Madden to make it 6-0.
The Mules would put three on the board with a good 36-yard field goal kick, to make its 6-3 Washburn at the end of the first quarter.
UCM would strike in the second quarter with a 13-yard touchdown pass to take the lead, 10-6. The 'Bods would later respond with the help of a Josh Grant interception at UCM 15 yard line.
Washburn's Logan Madden finds Ky Thomas for a 9-yard touchdown to regain the 'Bods lead, 13-10 at the half.
The 'Bods would force another takeaway, as L.J. Minner Jr. intercepted a Mules pass for a pick-six. Washburn leads 20-10 early in third quarter.
The 'Bods made it a three score game with a 6-yard touchdown pass. Washburn would cap off its scoring in the end of third with a 49-yard field goal kick. The 'Bods lead 30-10.
Finnesy would have two interceptions in the third quarter to break a Washburn program record for eight forced turnovers.
UCM would score early in the fourth quarter, to make it 30-17 Washburn.
Thomas would record his second touchdown of the game, for an 8-yard rushing touchdown. Washburn would pull away 37-17.
The 'Bods would defeat the Mules 37-17, handing UCM its second straight loss.
Madden led the offensive charge, going 20-31 for 231 yards with two touchdowns.
Washburn's defense would record six interceptions; Finnesy would lead the pack with two.
The 'Bods return back to Yager Stadium on Oct. 25 to host Fort Hays State.
