RCPD director talks community safety ahead of Halloween

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Director Brian Peete with the Riley County Police Department joined the 27 News Morning Show Tuesday to talk about preventing and reporting domestic violence in the community.

Peete talked about Domestic Violence Awareness Month and what the RCPD is doing to help out locals. He also touched on other topics such as Halloween safety, student activity in Aggieville and the county's homeless task force.

"We're partnering with the crisis center and a lot of other stakeholders within our community, trying to get the word out to do what we can to get people to report domestic violence and to look for ways to make themselves and their families safe, especially when you have the holidays coming up and a lot of economic hardship that's coming down," said Peete. "Tensions tend to rise in the household and everyplace else and unfortunately this kind of sparks domestic violence as well so we want people to know that we have their backs, that we want them to be resilient and that we want to find them help."
