Kansas City Chiefs bring back DT Mike Pennel for defensive line help
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A familiar face is making a return to Kansas City after being waived by the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Chiefs signed defensive tackle Mike Pennel on Wednesday for the third time in the middle of a season, adding some depth to their defensive line. Pennel swiftly made his way to Kansas City after being released by the Bengals yesterday.
Pennel was with the Chiefs last season, playing all 17 games and making seven starts. He finished 2024 with three sacks, 25 tackles and two QB hits.
Chris Jones was very passionate about the team bringing back Pennel earlier this month, and it showed when Pennel was at practice on Wednesday, with the two performing their signature handshake and dancing.
The Chiefs released Pennel back in August during the preseason as part of final cuts. This is his 12th season in the NFL. He's played for seven teams, with five of those seasons coming with the Chiefs.
It would not be a surprise to see him on the field when the Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
