KANSAS (KSNT) - As communities anticipate another Halloween celebration, here's some locations in Kansas who's inhabitants are more restless than ever.
TOPEKA:
- The Topeka State Hospital Cemetery.
- The Topeka State Hospital, formerly the Topeka Insane Asylum, was built in 1879 to house the mentally ill in northeast Kansas, according to US Ghost Adventures. During its operation, the hospital became infamous for sterilization and hydrotherapy programs with little to no records or paperwork to document admitted patients. In 1992, just five years before the hospital was to be closed, an activity specialist was killed by a violent and high-risk patient. Although the building was demolished in 2010, the cemetery still exists. Despite 1,157 individuals known to be buried at the cemetery, only 19 have grave markers. The cemetery and the land the hospital once stood on are said to be haunted. It is found at the Hummer Sports Complex located at 2751 SW East Circle Dr. S # 1 in Topeka.

- Constitution Hall.
- Constitution Hall is famous for being one of the oldest buildings in Kansas, along with its significance in the Free State Movement and Civil War, according to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library. Built in 1855, the building played a crucial role in the Underground Railroad. After the Civil war, the building housed a cutlery shop, a bookstore, drug store and more, but in 1984 the owner of the cutlery shop was killed inside. Since then, the building has been a popular destination for paranormal investigators who have experienced everything from shadows, pipe tobacco odor and entities known as Robert, Cissy, Christopher and a door guard. Constitution Hall is located at 429 S Kansas Ave in Topeka.

- The Great Overland Station.
- The Great Overland Station was a Union Pacific Railroad Passenger Depot that was built in 1927. It was most famous for its role in sending men off to World War II and transporting politicians to and from the area, according to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library. Although there were no known killings or incidents of that nature, paranormal investigators have reportedly heard the voices of women crying, drawers and office supplies moving on their own, as well as an anomaly near the front doors who is allegedly the spirit of a young boy who died while catching a train. The Great Overland Station is located at 701 N Kansas Ave in Topeka.

- Kansas State Capitol Building.
- The Kansas Statehouse was built in the early 1900s and allegedly houses the spirits of construction workers who died while working on the building, and a woman who fell 300 feet from the dome. In 2023, Donna Casement with the State Library of Kansas compiled records for eight of the nine workers believed to have died while building and maintaining the capitol. Casements reports these men completed their work “…at dizzying heights with heavy machinery and little to no safety precautions.” These workers who died where honored by the Kansas State Senate in a resolution from 2023, but as of Oct. 30 2025, there has yet to be a monument constructed. The capitol building is located at 201 SW 8th Ave in Topeka.

MANHATTAN
- Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity House.
- The Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity House at Kansas State University was originally a YMCA then converted to St. Mary's Hospital in 1926. The hospital was used to care for contagious and contracted diseases, and it housed patients in what was the original gym. The first entity to have haunted the building was a night duty nurse who fell down an elevator shaft, resulting in her death, according to hauntworld.com. The other entity is a former patient who was forgotten during the process of moving everything over to the newly built hospital in 1955. This patient, known as George, fell between his bed and the wall and went unnoticed by staff during the move. He is thought to have died later that night. George allegedly still haunts the fraternity house and is an unofficial member. Fraternity brothers reportedly experience lights flickering, locking and unlocking doors/windows, as well as banging on the walls and floors of the third floor hallway. The house is located at 1100 Fremont St in Manhattan.

FORT RILEY
- Cavalry Parade Field.
- A cholera outbreak had taken the fort by storm in 1867. Lieutenant Colonel George Custer was away at the time, but his wife Libby was waiting for him in Fort Riley. Custer sent an escort of cavalrymen to check on her. Today, visitors can allegedly see and hear a group of spectral riders across the parade grounds, according to Legends of America. The riders slow at the intersection of Sheridan and Forsyth Avenue where one dismounts, and the rest of the retinue ride away. Visitors often hear the sounds of thundering hoofs, voices and metallic jingling, while others see the cavalrymen themselves. The parade field is located at 217 Custer Ave in Fort Riley.

- Custer House.
- The Custer House is one of the four original buildings left at the fort. Although Custer never lived in the house, it is of a similar structure, according to Legends of America. As early as 1855 the building was known to be haunted by victims of the deadly cholera epidemic. Reports from soldiers include strange noises when no one is around, items moving about and made beds becoming unmade. The house is located at 24 Sheridan Pl in Fort Riley.
