Emporia State struggles in second half, loses to No. 14 Northwest Missouri at home

EMPORIA (KSNT)- Northwest Missouri outscored Emporia State 27-7 in the second half to hand the Hornets its fifth loss of the season.

Emporia State (4-5, 3-4 MIAA) opened the scoring with a bang thanks to a a 55-yard rushing score form Diego Cearns in the first quarter.

Northwest Missouri would score 14 straight to go in the half with a one score lead.

Out of the break, the Hornets had no answer.

The Bearcats scored rushing touchdowns on back-to-back drives followed by a 31-yard passing score later in the quarter.

Jamison Sarver would fin Malik O'Atis for an eight yard score to give the Hornets life but it was short lived.

The Bearcats added another rushing score in the fourth to come away with a 41-14 victory.

Emporia State had only 71 passing yards in the loss. Sarver was 11-28 along with his lone score. He threw one interception in the loss.

Cearns rushed for 155 yards on the afternoon along with his score.

Emporia State will hit the road next weekend to Topeka to take on Washburn (2-6, 1-5 MIAA) in the Turnpike Tussle.

Kickoff set for 1 p.m. at Yager Stadium.
