$65 million bond vote approved for USD 450
SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) - Local voters have made their voices heard on a $65 million bond issue in the Shawnee Heights school district.
Voters in USD 450 were asked to confirm or deny a $65 million bond resolution during the General Election on Nov. 4 that may pave the way for sweeping improvements in the district. Vote totals show the bond was approved with 69% voting 'yes' and 30% voting 'no.'
The Kansas Department of Education approved the bond vote to move forward on Sept. 10. Six schools in the district stand to benefit from the bond vote:
- Shawnee Heights High School.
- Shawnee Heights Middle School.
- Shawnee Heights Elementary School.
- Berryton Elementary.
- Tecumseh North Elementary School.
- Tecumseh South Elementary School.
School officials said approval of the bond would result in an estimated tax impact of $1.44 per month, or around $17.25 per year, for a $100,000 residential home that will remain in place for 25 years. The bond cash was earmarked for numerous improvements at the above schools such as renovated classrooms, gym floor replacements, mechanical improvements and more.
