Flags to fly at half-staff in Kansas soon, here's why

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is ordering flags to fly at half-staff to honor the passing of a former vice president.

Kelly issued the order on Nov. 4 in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Flags are to fly at half-staff until sundown on the day Cheney is buried.

“Vice President Cheney spent his life in service to our nation and was renowned for both his deep knowledge and commitment,” Kelly said. “His legacy will reflect his work to reshape the vice presidency and his conviction to upholding the ideals that the United States was founded upon. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this challenging time.”

Cheney served as the 46th vice president of the U.S. from 2001-2009 alongside former Republican President George W. Bush. He also served as White House chief of staff for former President Gerald Ford and occupied the role of secretary of defense in former President George H.W. Bush's administration.
