Chiefs stand pat at NFL trade deadline despite rumors

0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There will be no changes to the Kansas City Chiefs roster after standing pat ahead of the NFL trade deadline at 3 p.m. CT.

Despite constant rumors, the Chiefs appear to be content with what they have on their roster for the second half of the season.

The Chiefs were reportedly in the market for another pass rusher to help a defensive line that has been inconsistent and losing Omarr Norman-Lott for the season to a torn ACL.

But GM Brett Veach seems to banking on the defensive line picking things up as the season goes along, something that has been a constant over the years with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

The running back position was also initially a concern, but Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt have started to play better over the past few weeks. Rookie RB Brashard Smith has also proven to be a threat in the passing game.

The Chiefs also will be as healthy as they've been all season coming out of the bye week, with Josh Simmons and Isiah Pacheco likely returning to the field as they gear up for a massive AFC West matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Knowing Veach's track record, he will not mortgage the team's future or take big swings that would significantly impact the roster unless it's a necessity, like when the Chiefs traded for WR Deandre Hopkins due to them being razor thin at the position last season.

The team currently sits at 5-4, a game outside the AFC playoff picture and have two immense games against Broncos and Colts after the bye week.

Even though the Chiefs are in an unusual position, history tells it wouldn't be wise to bet against this team.
