SNAP benefits restored for Kansas, DCF says

KANSAS (KSNT) - The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) announced on Friday that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are being restored.

On Friday, Nov. 7, DCF announced that it's working to issue the full November SNAP benefits and said they should be sent out throughout the rest of the day.

DCF said the total distribution includes 85,981 Kansas households with a total distribution of $31,618,039. According to DCF, the issuance won't be staggered and once the file is processed, funds will be sent to EBT cards.

Late on Wednesday, Nov. 5, the U.S. Department of Agriculture sent states instructions on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.  At the time, DCF said it was recalculating each household’s SNAP benefits based on the Nov. 5 guidance, which was different from the guidance provided on Nov. 4. 

President Donald Trump’s administration asked a federal appeals court Friday to block a judge’s order that it distribute November’s full monthly SNAP food benefits amid a U.S. government shutdown, even as at least some states said they were moving quickly to get the money to people.

The judge gave the Trump administration until Friday to make the payments through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. But the administration asked the appeals court to suspend any court orders requiring it to spend more money than is available in a contingency fund, and instead allow it to continue with planned partial SNAP payments for the month.
