2 dead, Austin Police Association says multiple possible overdoses near 6th Street overnight
Austin Police Association tweeted early Friday morning, saying there were multiple possible fentanyl overdoses in and around the Sixth Street Entertainment District downtown.
AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) — Law enforcement officials responded to several scenes of possible overdoses near 6th street early Friday morning, Austin Police said.
Officials said there were several scenes between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. Friday.
Austin EMS told KXAN they got an overdose call just after midnight on Friday from 7th and Sabine. That person died on the scene.
According to EMS, they got another call that people were unconscious just after three in the morning on 5th and Trinity. 5 ambulances took six people to the hospital from here--another person dying.
Someone also called EMS to report a person in caridac arrest around 6:30 a.m, on 8th and Red River. 2 people there were taken to the hospital, EMS told KXAN. One of those people was revived by CPR on the scene.
EMS told KXAN in these incidents, they did see signs and symptoms of opioid use.
