2 arrested following SWAT callout in southeast Austin
That's in the Goodnight Ranch development near the Bluff Springs neighborhood, west of Vertex Boulevard. APD considered the suspect, who is believed to have stolen a car, armed and dangerous.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Residents of a southeast Austin neighborhood were allowed back in their homes after the Austin Police Department arrested two people following a SWAT callout Friday morning.
A man wanted for an alleged motorcycle theft wouldn't come out of a home when police asked him to in the 9000 block of Alderman Drive, near the Goodnight Ranch development on Slaughter Lane. Due to that, and an outstanding felony warrant, along with the man's "extensive criminal history," APD said the SWAT team was called in.
Police were called to the scene at 12:42 a.m., and SWAT arrived around 4:30 a.m., APD said.
After using "attention-getting devices," APD arrested two people, a man and a woman, outside of the home.
Detectives investigating are trying to figure out if the woman involved has any outstanding warrants or previous criminal history like the man did, APD said. The stolen car was found outside the home, and a resident called 911 initially to report someone moving a motorcycle "that didn't look right," APD said.
APD said a weapon was located as officers and detectives served a search warrant on the property.
The scene is close to three schools — IDEA Bluff Springs, Blazier Elementary School and Blazier Intermediate School. Students at Blazier Elementary and Intermediate schools don't have class today since it's one of the two days Austin Independent School District teachers and staff were given off "to offer some measure of stress relief during the pandemic."
