The Austin SWAT team responded to a situation off Anken Drive in southeast Austin Tuesday afternoon, the Austin Police Department said.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police arrested a man after the Austin SWAT team responded to a situation off Anken Drive in southeast Austin Tuesday afternoon, the Austin Police Department said.
Police said the incident took place at 2500 Anken Drive, near South Pleasant Valley Road and East Oltorf Street.
APD said the original call was made at 11:20 a.m. for a suspect with seven felony warrants inside an apartment.
“When officers attempted to conduct this warrant service, the male barricaded himself inside of this residence,” APD said. “It was believed he might be armed, so SWAT was called to the scene to assist.”
APD said the suspect was the only person inside the residence at the time of the police response.
Officials said the suspect left the apartment without incident after all the necessary precautionary measures were taken.
Austin Police said there were closures previously along Riverside Drive, Oltorf Street, Anken Drive and Pleasant Valley Road for safety and nearby residences were evacuated, but the area has since been reopened.
APD said the man was taken to jail for the warrants, but Austin Police have not yet released the name of the suspect.
“This is a really fortunate situation that there are no injuries reported. It was a peaceful outcome. And right now, we do have someone in custody that had seven felony warrants,” APD said.
