Father and son searching Kerr County for missing loved ones
KERR COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- Ryen Brake and his father Robert have trudged through muddy, debris-filled riverbanks for the past 48 hours looking for Ryen's grandparents/Robert's parents: Joni and Robert Sr. They were in their RV at HTR Campgrounds in Ingram when the floods came.
"Definitely has been very challenging for us as a family, for us as a community, overall just very challenging," Ryen said. "Almost at a loss for words for the both of us, as we continue out here to search and try for some kind of hope."
Below is a photo of Robert Sr. and Joni. Ryen also said they're searching for the couple's car - a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe.
According to a Saturday evening update from state and county officials, the death toll had risen to 43 in Kerr County.
Ryen said his family has not gotten any word about Joni and Robert Sr., and the family continues to check the morgue as well.
Robert described his parents as "patriots through and through." He said his father was in the Air Force and his mother was a base nurse.
“Regardless of the outcome, we know they’re going to be okay, either in heaven or... one way or another," Ryen said. "But we’re not giving up until we get some kind of outcome, for sure.”
