Weekend Watch: Fearless Run Club, plus how to help flood victims
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Running and run clubs can seem daunting, but a local social media influencer is making it his mission to help those on their journey to wellness and fitness with the Fearless Run Club.
Plus, Central Texas continues cleanup and recovery efforts after the devastating floods over the Fourth of July week and weekend. KXAN has ways for you to help over the weekend.
Fearless Run Club
Joseph McMahon, a San Antonio native now living in Austin, began his personal journey just over three years ago. His mission was to change his life by living healthier. This meant better eating, consistent training, and incorporating the one thing many people dread, running.
After dropping 60 pounds in the span of three years, Joseph knew he wanted to focus on sharing his knowledge with people online and share his continued commitment to a healthier lifestyle. One thing he wanted to share was his running journey but that's when he realized, joining a run club can be daunting, especially if you don't know anyone.
That's when Fearless Run Club was born. Whether you are a beginner, new to Austin, or in the middle of your own personal fitness journey, Joseph knew he wanted to make a place where anyone could run.
This free club meets every other Saturday at Zilker Park and invites everyone to come out. If you run at a 14-, 15-, or 16-minute miles, this is the run club for you. It's only two miles and a great way to get started.
The club meets at 7:45 a.m. with a warm up and start at 8am. The next meet up date is this Saturday, July 12th. While it is completely FREE to join, you are asked to RSVP to the event at SweatPals.com.
On a personal note, I attended the run club to see what it was like as I had never joined a run club before. I can confirm this was an enjoyable experience and a very welcoming environment. While I have never been a runner, I was able to keep up, be encouraged, and finished. I fully expect I will be making a return to the club.
