Marble Falls issues boil water notice
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Wednesday, the city of Marble Falls issued a boil water notice.
The notice follows recent flooding in the area, which the city said has compromised its drinking water supply.
All customers should boil their water before consumption, including washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, cooking or ice making.
“The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. Be sure to let it cool before drinking it,” the city said. “In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.”
The city said its water system had a multiple-barrier failure treatment technique violation. Due to the violation, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required the city to issue a public notice and tell customers to boil their water.
TCEQ sets minimum water quality standards for public drinking water.
“One of these standards is a turbidity limit. Turbidity by itself has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may also indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms,” the city said.
