Waymo, Uber expand service in Austin: Here's where
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Waymo and Uber said the companies would expand their service territory in Austin beginning Friday.
According to Waymo, fully autonomous rides will soon span across 90 square miles from North Austin to South Austin and will include new neighborhoods, as well as destinations like The Domain and McKinney Falls State Park.
“We’re proud to offer the only fully autonomous, 24/7 experience for anyone in Austin, and are excited to offer more destinations across the city – no waitlists or caveats,” Waymo said.
The company said there were currently more than 100 Waymo vehicles on Uber in Austin. It also hoped that the number would grow to hundreds over time.
“With recent growth in Austin and California, plus opening in Atlanta with Uber, Waymo now serves more than 700 sq mi across the US,” the company said.
According to Waymo, it has driven over 100 million fully autonomous miles without a human behind the wheel.
“We've doubled our mileage in just six months while expanding to new cities like Atlanta—all building on our historic connection to Austin, where we completed the world's first fully autonomous ride on public roads,” Waymo said.
