Only 22% of Texas experiencing drought with Hill Country drought-free
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The latest drought monitor released Thursday for Central Texas showed drought conditions have noticeably decreased.
In the latest update, the Hill Country is drought-free, but parts of Central Texas, including parts of Austin and Hays County, are still experiencing moderate drought conditions.
Only three months ago, 59% of Texas was experiencing differing levels of a dry state. Due to the latest precipitation, we have seen an improvement in the drought conditions not only in Central Texas, but across the entirety of the state.
Currently, only 22% of Texans are experiencing drought.
Just four months ago, all of Central Texas was experiencing drought conditions — parts of Fredericksburg, Blanco, Llano, and Burnet were even experiencing Level 4 or exceptional drought conditions.
The last time Central Texas was completely drought-free was in November 2021. However, in December 2021, abnormally dry drought conditions became prevalent in Gillespie County and the Hill County.
In September 2024, Williamson County was experiencing abnormally dry conditions but not drought. There were moderate drought conditions in the southern portions of Gillespie and Blanco County.
