Travis County Sheriff asks for public's help solving 2018 murder on FM 969
TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Sunday marked seven years since the unsolved murder of a man, according to a press release from the Travis County Sheriff's Office.
Juan Carlos Gomez, 32, from Mexico, was found dead on July 20, 2018, in the 9300 block of FM 969. According to TCSO, he was shot around 8 p.m. after returning home from a convenience store.
“Please help us bring justice to Juan Gomez’s family," Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez said in the release. "Sometimes a tiny detail that doesn’t seem important can be the key to solving a cold case. We want to hear from you. The Gomez family needs you to share what you know.”
According to TCSO's release, he drove a white, four-door Dodge truck that night and wore a white T-shirt and gray shorts.
"One witness told detectives he saw a silver or light gray sedan chasing Gomez’s truck shortly before he was shot. Another witness described a silver-colored sedan with peeling paint and/or clear coat damage leaving the incident location at a high rate of speed west on FM 969," the release said.
Deputies responded to the scene around 8:43 p.m. on the night of the murder. First responders transported Gomez from the scene to Dell Seton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:13 p.m.
TCSO asked that anyone who saw Gomez that night or knows what occurred before his death call 512-854-1444 or email tips to MajorCrimesTips@traviscountytx.gov.
