Police: 33-year-old man dies after shooting involving officers in New Braunfels
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A 33-year-old Spring, Texas man died after a disturbance escalated to a shooting involving police officers in New Braunfels Saturday, according to a city of New Braunfels news release.
Two officers with the New Braunfels Police Department responded to a report of that disturbance between a man and a woman around 4:15 p.m. at the Sage Apartments, which is located in the 2500 block of West San Antonio Street, according to the city.
During the response, the man "brandished a sharp weapon and began lunging in the officers' direction, prompting them to fire their department issued service weapons, striking the suspect."
"Additional responding officers attempted life saving measures on the suspect and paramedics from the New Braunfels Fire Department took over those efforts," the city said.
The man "succumbed to his injuries" and was pronounced dead on the scene. He not was identified by police Saturday, as they needed to notify next of kin.
No other police officers or civilians were injured in the shooting, according to the city.
The two officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave during the investigation, per standard protocol by New Braunfels PD.
The shooting remained under investigated by police and the Texas Rangers, according to the city. No other details were available Saturday.
