Weekend Watch: Poke-con in Austin and KXAN Fan Drive
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Trainers, it's time to get your Pokédex and go on a thrilling adventure as Austin Poke-con returns. Plus, a movie night in the moonlight, a free musical in the park, and our KXAN Summer Fan Drive has arrived.
Weekend Forecast
After a few sunny and hot days, the chance of rain has returned once again kicking off on Friday and peaking as we move into Saturday with a 30% chance of rainfall. It's still going to be a hot one with temperatures hitting 98° in the afternoon. Temperatures may dip if clouds and rainfall continue for a prolonged period of time.
KXAN Summer Fan Drive
This Friday, Aug. 1, KXAN is hosting its annual Family Eldercare Summer Fan Drive to give Central Texans relief from the heat. There are multiple locations where you can donate box fans or make monetary donations if you prefer.

- What: Bring inexpensive box fans or monetary donations
- Why: Because fans save lives!
For 35 years, KXAN has hosted this event, and we encourage you to take part and make this the biggest Fan Drive yet.
You can also donate on the Family Eldercare website through Sept. 15, and it will count toward the Summer Fan Drive.

Moonlight Movie Night
It's treasure hunt time as National Treasure will be the featured movie at the Moonlight Movie Night in Round Rock. Taking place at Old Settlers Park at Palm Valley on Friday, Aug. 1, National Treasure will light up the screen along with a fun treasure hunt for everyone to enjoy. The movie will be free for the entire family, with festivities beginning at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starting at 8 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the venue. You are encouraged to bring your comfiest gear and to visit their website and social media for clues for the treasure hunt!
Austin Poke-Con 2025
Pin your poke badges on your vest, grab the Pokédex, and take your six best Pokémon as Poke-Con 2025 launches the first weekend of August. Taking place at the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Poke-Con has three nights of fun starting with the Kickoff Party on Friday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
This then leads into the Saturday convention from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the Poke-Con After Dark from 7 p.m. to 11 p,m.On Sunday, the convention floor will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be plenty to do, including Pokémon TCG Tournaments, Trivia, Cosplay Runway, Bingo, Scarlet and Violet Tournament, and more. Zilker Summer Musical: Bring it On
Zilker Theatre Productions presents Bring It On: The Musical. Running Thursday through Sunday until Aug. 16, the show is put on for free; however, donations are encouraged for the incredible work. There are multiple shows with ASL interpretation, sensory-friendly, and audio description. The show starts at 8:15 p.m. at the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater with plenty of space to sit. You are encouraged to bring blankets, towels, and ground chairs to sit on. The show is about the world of competitive cheerleading, along with high school politics and romance. Based on the hit film, the show is a can't-miss production. Read to a Therapy Dog
Who doesn't love dogs? Add in reading and you have the perfect afternoon! Well, it's a child's lucky day as the Wells Branch Community Library hosts its Read to a Therapy Dog session on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Located at 15001 Wells Port Drive in Austin, this is a program designed for children ages 4+ who can read or are beginner readers. They will be able to select a book to read aloud to one of the therapy dogs at the branch. It's the perfect way for a child to pick up a book and have fun. Sign-ups begin at 10 a.m. that morning.
