Micah Parsons requests trade from Dallas Cowboys
DALLAS, Texas (KETK) — Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons requested to be traded from the team in a statement he shared on social media Friday.
"Yes I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet," Parsons said in a statement on X. "I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this Americas team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately I no longer want to be here. I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present."
Parsons said he had a conversation with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in March during which they discussed leadership. According to Parsons, the conversation turned into a discussion about his contract with the team but since his agent wasn't present he believed it wasn't a formal negotiation.
Parsons is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal. Considered one of the top defensive players in the league, Parsons is reportedly asking for at least $40 million a year as part of a new, long-term deal.
Later, when Parson's agent reached out to the team, he said they told his agent that the deal was pretty much done. According to Parsons, the agent reached out to the team again and was met with silence.
"At that point, we decided we would allow the team to reach out to us whenever they decided they wanted to talk," Parsons said. "Yet still not a call, email or text to my agent about starting a negotiation. Up to today, the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract."
Parsons then said he no longer wanted to play for the team and has personally requested to be traded.
"Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys," Parsons said. "My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally."
