AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A 17-year-old was arrested in connection with a homicide that happened last week in east Austin, according to the Austin Police Department. Police also identified the victim.
The suspect was identified as Douglas Clyde, according to police. Clyde was charged with first-degree murder, and his bond was set at $15,000, according to Travis County online court records.
Attorney information was not available for Clyde, as of Tuesday.
Police also identified the victim of the alleged shooting as 18-year-old Michael Atwood, per a news release from APD.
Officers responded to the report of the alleged shooting Friday around 6:45 p.m. at 2609 Rosewood Avenue, an apartment complex in east Austin. When officers arrived at the apartment, they found Atwood "with an apparent gunshot wound," the release said.
Austin-Travis County EMS also responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures on Atwood. However, he was pronounced dead at 7:08 p.m., according to police.
According to the investigation, a juvenile girl was with Clyde, her current boyfriend. Atwood was the girl's ex-boyfriend. When Clyde saw Atwood, police said he "shot and killed him" and then left the area.
Then, on Saturday, police issued an arrest warrant for Clyde for a first-degree murder charge. Clyde was found in Manor on Monday by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force/Tactical Intelligence Unit.
This case is being investigated as Austin's 38th homicide of 2025, according to police.
