Google starts work on GFiber in Cedar Park
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Saturday, Google ceremonially kicked off the installation of its "GFiber" (formerly Google Fiber) in Cedar Park, according to a press release from the company.
The city of Cedar Park made an agreement in May 2024 with the tech company to allow it to install and maintain GFiber cables in the city's jurisdiction.
The ceremony took place at Aster Street and Pecan Woods Drive, according to the release. GFiber's Head of Government and Community Affairs John-Michael Cortez called the company's decision to expand into Cedar Park "a no brainer."
"Cedar Park has, for many years, been an incredible place to live with an amazing quality of life," he said. "It's been a wonderful place to do business with a thriving economy. All of those ingredients made Cedar Park a no brainer for this type of investment ... the community here wants more and better choices for Internet service, and we're happy to be providing it."
Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce CEO Tony Moline said at the event he's "excited" at the addition.
"I think it's very poetic that they're here in the Bell district, the future downtown of Cedar Park," he said. "Our growth has been tremendous over the last 10 so years, and knowing that a strong partner like GFiber is coming to Cedar Park is instrumental, because we are the hub for business in western Williamson County."
Board members from the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce also attended the event.
Cedar Park residents can sign up for updates on GFiber expansion at the company's website.
