Bat found in Cedar Park tests positive for rabies, police says

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A bat found in Cedar Park tested positive for rabies, the Cedar Park Police Department said in a social media post on Monday.

The bat was discovered on Friday in the 710 block of Discovery Boulevard, according to the department. It has since tested positive for rabies, Cedar Park Police said.

It is unknown how long the bat was in the area or if it had direct contact with people or animals, police said.

Rabies is a fatal but preventable disease that can infect mammals, including wildlife, pets and humans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It can be spread through bites and scratches of an infected animal.
