'We're not worried about our offense': Longhorns locker room not concerned with the lack of offense

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- No. 8 Texas sounds a lot better than it looked when the Longhorns laced up against UTEP, another non-conference opponent, Saturday in Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium and walked away with a 27-10 win.

With all due respect to the UTEP Miners, a 17-point win for Texas is far from the standard, and if it weren't for a stout defense, the win margin could have been much closer.

"We're not worried about our offense," linebacker Liona Lefau said to the media. "We see what they do every single day in practice. We understand nobody's perfect. They're never going to have perfect game, we're never going to have a perfect game, so we believe in them."

The Longhorns' defense finished the game with two interceptions and allowed only 259 yards from the Miners.

With a young offense, it's expected to have early-season struggles, but it starts with quarterback Arch Manning finishing 11-for-25 passing, 114 yards, one interception, and three total touchdowns. Those numbers don't scream that Manning had a bad performance, but at one point, the red shirt sophomore threw 10 consecutive incompletions, and the fans let him hear it with their booing.

“Any time you have a good defense like that, it’s definitely a little bit easier, you don’t have too much on offense,” Manning said.

Fortunate for Manning, his teammates have his back.

"The conversations with Arch is kind of really just, for me personally, I'm rocking with him always," offensive lineman Trevor Goosby said. "I wouldn't want any other quarterback to block for so that's kind of our conversation and just reminding him of who he is and he's a great quarterback."

Offensively, the Longhorns totaled 341 yards in week three, but their last opportunity to look explosive against a non-conference opponent is Saturday under the lights against 0-3 Sam Houston.
