AUSTIN (KXAN) -- As we eventually cool down in Central Texas, AAA Texas wants to remind drivers about car maintenance and preparedness tips for the fall season.

Meteorologist Tommy House sat down with AAA Texas Spokesperson Daniel Armbruster to learn more.

Meteorologist Tommy House: What are some tips from AAA Texas that drivers should be aware of as we're changing seasons?

Daniel Armbruster: We're coming up on October, which is winter car care month. It's time to prepare your car for cooler temperatures. Make sure your battery, antifreeze levels, lights and brakes are working properly.

It's also a good time to ensure your vehicle emergency preparedness kit is fully stocked and prepped for winter conditions. Have jackets, coats, and extra blankets available in case you have a roadside emergency, so that you stay warm until help arrives.

House: That full list (emergency preparedness kit) is available online?

Armbruster: Yes, it includes things such as a first aid kit, blankets, jumper cables, flashlights, and several other items.

House: October is the second rainiest month in the Austin area. How important is it to make sure your tires are up to date?

Armbruster: Flat tires are one of the top roadside emergencies we see here in Texas at AAA. Make sure you have good tread depth, and they are fully inflated. If you're not sure, take it to a place like Discount Tire. It's important to have good tires because you need traction for slick spots.
