Exploring the different ways to get to Austin City Limits
AUSTIN (KXAN) — There are so many ways to get to Austin City Limits Music Festival. I wanted to create a guide using my own experiences plus the official recommendations from ACL and the City of Austin.
From schlepping up the Azie Morton Road hill after the festival, to parking close enough to walk with friends or pushing my daughter in a stroller, I've arrived at ACL several different ways.
You can try parking close enough to walk, or close enough to throw money at a pedicab. There's also some parking garage options.
A few parking garage options include the One Texas Center, the Palmer Events Center and the RiverSouth Garage at Barton Springs Road and South First Street
Along the northbound service road of MoPac Expressway, there are garage options at Spyglass Drive and another near the Salt Traders and Day Maker restaurants. Those options cost about $50 a day, pending availability, and can be booked through Laz Parking.
Zach Theater has a parking option for about $90 a day and can be booked in advance through Parxster.
You can pay about $75 a day to park at Austin High School.
If you plan to take the free festival Shuttle, there are public parking garages within walking distance of the shuttle drop-off/pick-up spot at the corner of Electric Drive & Walter Seaholm Drive.
However, don't discredit using a scooter or the CapMetro BikeShare if you're parking in the downtown Austin core.
There are several spots to drop off your scooter or bikeshare, including on Azie Morton Road, near the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and the little league fields.
Another drop-off spot is at the corner of Sterzing Street and Barton Springs Road by Chuy's and on Toomey Road near the baseball fields. Another option can be found on the west side of Zilker Park at Stratford Drive under MoPac and under MoPac on the Austin High side along Veterans Drive.
If you opt to take a CapMetro bus, route 803 will drop you off near the corner of Lamar Boulevard and Barton Springs Road.
Rideshare is an option and your driver should know in advance the best spot for a rideshare drop off. Just know finding your rideshare home will take time, and the farther away from Zilker Park you can get, the better.
There are three entrances to ACL, the main one on the east side of Zilker Park, closest to Barton Springs, and Azie Morton is the busiest, but it's also the one that has the iconic ACL sign.
Barton Springs Road from Sterzing Street to MoPac closes at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 and won't open until Monday, Oct. 6 at 6 a.m.
