Kevin Durant helps kick off NBA schedule Tuesday on KXAN

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The NBA returns to NBC and KXAN with a doubleheader on Tuesday featuring a Longhorn legend.

Kevin Durant, who starred for Texas in the 2006-2007 season, is fresh off signing a $90 million contract extension after getting traded to the Houston Rockets. He'll lead the Rockets against the defending NBA champs, the Oklahoma City Thunder, at 5:30 p.m. CT on KXAN in the first game of the 2025-2026 NBA season.

Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors will take on the Los Angeles Lakes, who will be without Lebron James due to sciatica, at 8 p.m. Both games will also be available on Peacock, NBC's subscription-based streaming service. Tuesday's KXAN News broadcasts can be seen on KXAN+

The NBA hasn't been on KXAN airwaves since 2002, and under new a broadcast deal with the league, it will now air at least one game per week to start the season with more frequency as the season rolls on. You can watch games for free over the air on KXAN or subscribe to NBC's streaming service Peacock to see additional games.

The NBA will also air games on ESPN, ABC and Prime Video. Prime Video will show most of the Emirates NBA Cup games, including the semifinals Dec. 13 and finals Dec. 19, along with other selections later in the season.
